#AEWLAX Week 12: Awards Highlight End of Regular Season

BOSTON – UAlbany took home the outright #AEWLAX Regular Season Title, while New Hampshire held on to secure the final tournament berth in a wild final regular season weekend of women's lacrosse.

The Great Danes trailed Bryant 7-5 midway through the third quarter, but came back to take the lead for good in the fourth and finish with an 11-10 win to complete the regular season with a 6-0 record. UVM secured its No. 3 seed in the tournament with a 13-5 win over UMass Lowell, as Carolyn Carrera set a new #AEWLAX single season caused turnover record with 56.
 
UNH clinched the final tournament berth in their 17-15 loss to UMBC. The Wildcats, Retrievers and Bulldogs all finished with matching 2-4 records and tied for fourth. They went 1-1 against each other, 1-0 against UMass Lowell and 0-3 against the top three seeds. UNH eventually earned the tiebreak due to goal differential, finishing at +2, while UMBC was at +1.
The preseason poll was announced on January 26.
 
The #AEWLAX Tournament begins on Friday, May 5 as host UAlbany faces New Hampshire, followed by Binghamton and Vermont squaring off at 4 p.m. The semifinals will be streamed on AmericaEast.TV.
 
This year’s championship will be played at UAlbany on Sunday, May 7 at 10 a.m. on ESPNU. Ticket information for the weekend can be found here.

#AEWLAX Weekly Award Winners – May 1
Offensive Player of the Week
Megan Halczuk, UMBC – Sr., Midfield, Fawn Grove, Pa.
  • Finished with five points and 13 draw controls in a win over UNH.
  • Totaled four goals and one assist in the 17-15 victory.
  • This is Halczuk’s first #AEWLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor this year.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Carolyn Carrera, Vermont – Gr., Defense, Harriman, N.Y.
  • Posted six caused turnovers and three ground balls in a 13-5 win over UMass Lowell.
  • Set new America East record with 56 total caused turnovers as UVM finish 4-2 in league play.
  • This is Carrera’s third #AEWLAX Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Grace Cincebox, UAlbany – Fr., Goalkeeper, Pittsford, N.Y.
  • Finished with 11 saves and allowed just one goal in the fourth as UAlbany held off Bryant 11-10.
  • Added one caused turnover and one ground ball.
  • This is Cincebox’s second #AEWLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
