#AEWLAX Week 6: Vermont, Binghamton & UNH Earn Victories

BOSTON – Vermont and Binghamton extended their winning streaks and secured their first conference wins, while New Hampshire also came through with its biggest victory of the year during #AEWLAX’s opening weekend.

UVM led Bryant just 7-6 with one minute left in the first half, but outscored the Bulldogs 10-1 over the next 30 minutes of action for the 17-7 victory on Saturday. Binghamton continued its strong start to the year with nine goals in the opening quarter as they held on for a 18-13 win over UMBC. The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-1 lead over UMass Lowell and then withstood a late fourth quarter run to secure a 15-11 victory.
 
UAlbany and Bryant both play contests this Wednesday, highlighted by the Great Danes taking on UConn, who is receiving votes in the IWLCA National Poll. On Saturday they host Vermont, in a matchup of the 2022 #AEWLAX Title game which the Catamounts won by a single goal. Bryant hosts UMass Lowell as both seek their first conference victory and then Binghamton travels to battle New Hampshire with both teams sporting 1-0 conference records. UMBC faces Longwood in non-conference action.
 
 
The preseason poll was announced on January 26.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of the #AEWLAX this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEWLAX Weekly Award Winners – March 13
Offensive Player of the Week
Abigail Carroll, Binghamton – So., Midfielder, Holtsville, N.Y.
  • Posted 11 points (10G, 1A) and ten draw controls in a 2-0 week.
  • Had five goals, one assist and six draws in a 13-12 win over Cornell, the program’s first over an Ivy League opponent.
  • Added five goals on seven shots with four draws against UMBC.
  • This is Carroll’s first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Carolyn Carrera, Vermont – Gr., Defender, Harriman, N.Y.
  • Recorded five caused turnovers and three ground balls in a 17-7 win over Bryant.
  • Held the nation’s second-leading goal scorer Kenna Kaut to 0 goals and three total shots.
  • Part of a defense that limited the nation’s fourth best scoring offense (24 ppg) to just ten points (7G, 3A).
  • This is Carrera’s second #AEWLAX Defensive Player of the Week honor this year.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jane Trauger, Vermont – Fr., Attack, Voorhees, N.J.
  • Recorded five points (4G, 1A) in a 17-7 victory over Bryant to start conference play.
  • Scored four goals on eight shots along with two caused turnovers and one ground ball.
  • This is Trauger’s second straight #AEWLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
