2023 #AESD Champs: UMBC Men and UNH Women Pull Away on Day 2

WORCESTER, Mass - UMBC's men's 200 free relay ends the night with bang as they break a fourteen-year old #AESD record.

The Retrievers' pulled away from the competition in night two, finishing first with a total of 359 points. Bryant falls to second place with 292 points, while Binghamton closely trails in third with 288 points amassed.

New Hampshire defends their position on the women's side, remaining in first with 314 points. Bryant ends the night again in second, with 226 points total, while UMBC moves up third with 191.5 points.

Day 2 Results

How It Happened:
  • The first gold of the night went to Binghamton's Ryan Cohn, as he claimed his first #AESD title with his win in the men's 3-meter diving events (294.60).
  • Vermont went 1 and 2 in the women's 500 free, with Ella Church landing in second while Jackie House claims first place with her 4:50:00 finish.
  • Binghamton's Liam duo claimed the top two spots in the men's 500 free, with Liam Preston finishing in second and Liam Murphy finishing in first (4:24:52).
  • Bryant's sole gold medal on the night went to Samantha Grenon as she took the women's 200 IM (2:01:87).
  • Daniel Nicusan claimed UMBC's first gold of Day 2, taking the men's 200 IM title in 1:46:60.
  • In a race that saw four-medalist, New Hampshire's Audrey Mahoney edged out the competition to earn the gold in the women's 50 free (23:17).
  • UMBC's second gold was awarded to Oliver Gassmann, finishing the men's 50 free just .07 seconds ahead of Binghamton's Eli Lanfear (20:03 to 20:10).
  • New Hampshire claimed the final women's medal of the night with their 1:33:35 finish in the women's 200 free relay.
  • In a photo-finish, UMBC's men's 200 free relay gave a record breaking performance to earn the final gold of the night. Their 1:20:11 finish beat out Binghamton by .06 seconds and the former record by .03.
