BOSTON – Six programs got their 2023 season underway this past weekend! UMBC earned the lone win for America East programs on Saturday to pace the conference.
The Retrievers posted a 19-10 victory over George Washington, while Vermont fell 10-5 to Temple, who is receiving votes and UAlbany was edged by No. 18 Johns Hopkins 17-10.
Ten more non-conference games take place this week, with UMass Lowell, UMBC and Bryant all playing a pair of contests.
The preseason poll was announced on January 26.
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of the #AEWLAX this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Offensive Player of the Week
Lauren Cremen, UMBC – Gr., Attack, Manchester, Md.
- Notched five goals on seven shots in a win over George Washington.
- Added three ground balls in the win.
- This is Cremen’s first Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Isabella Fontana, UMBC – Jr., Goalkeeper, Chevy Chase, Md.
- Stopped 13 shots in a 19-10 victory over George Washington
- Recorded a .565 save percentage while giving up ten goals with two ground ball.
- This is Fontana’s first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Hannah Shaddock, UMass Lowell – Fr., Goalkeeper, Corning, N.Y.
- Made 13 saves and allowed 16 goals to No. 23 UMass Amherst.
- Helped hold UMass to just five goals in the opening half.
- This is Shaddock’s first career Rookie of the Week award.
