Coppersmith Named CoSIDA Academic All-America

 AUSTIN, Texas - For the second consecutive year, UMBC Softball senior Courtney Coppersmith has been named a Third Team Academic All-American as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Coppersmith, one of 13 repeat honorees at the Division I level for Softball, became just the sixth Retriever in UMBC history to win multiple Academic All-American accolades. She is the first UMBC softball player to accomplish the feat and is the first to win their second honor since 2011.
 
Coppersmith was the America East Pitcher of the Year for the third straight season in 2022 and ranks third in the nation with a 0.78 ERA. She went 11-5 overall with 219 strikeouts in 116.0 innings. Off the field she is a three-time Academic All-District honoree, two-time America East Softball Scholar Athlete, and was the 2021 America East Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
 
Coppersmith graduated in late May with a 3.71 GPA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a double minor in Emergency Health Services and Philosophy.
