BOSTON - An exciting winter season saw fans return to the America East basketball playoffs as well as the indoor track & field and swimming & diving championships. The atmostpheres were electric and the competition was fierce as six league champions were crowned.
Two-thirds of the way through the 2021-22 season, UAlbany sits spot atop the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr., Commissioner’s Cup standings. UAlbany captured two of the conference's six winter championships to grow its lead in the latest standings, which were announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon.
Vermont moved up one spot to second place, trailing UAlbany by just 19 points while New Hampshire is third.
The Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in America East as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success both during the regular season and championship competition in the conference's 18 sports.

- Seven of America East’s 10 member institutions won a championship or regular-season title or had a runner-up finish this winter.
- UAlbany won its first women's basketball title since 2017 and seventh in program history.
- The Great Danes also won their ninth-straight Indoor Track & Field crown and 11th in the last 12 years.
- Vermont moved up to second place after sweepingt the regular season and tournament titles in men's basketball.
- UNH captured its first championship of 2021-22, winning the women's swimming & diving crown, its third consecutive title and 10th overall – the most in conference history.
- UMBC returned to the top of the men's swimming & diving podium by winning the title. The Retrievers have captured 13 of the 15 men's swimming & diving titles all-time.
- UMass Lowell won its second Indoor Track & Field crown in program history, scoring the most points of any team in eight years.
The scoring system for the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup is as follows: In sports where regular-season round robin competition is conducted, the first-place institution in the final standings receives four points times the total number of teams involved in conference play. The second-place institution receives four less points; third place receives eight less points, and so on. Additionally, the America East (tournament) champion receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place receives four less points and so on down to the last-place institution which receives two points.
In sports where regular-season round robin competition is not conducted (cross country, track & field, swimming & diving), the first-place institution at the America East championship receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place gets four less points and so on down to the last place team which receives two points.
