Gerow, Weedon Lead UMBC to Season-Opening Wins

BOSTON – Lacrosse season is underway as the balls flew off draw controls to kick off seasons for all but one America East women’s lacrosse team.
 
UMBC and Vermont won their season openers against Longwood and Colgate, respectively. Both teams will be back on the field Wednesday as will Binghamton with two games airing on ESPN+. No. 4 Stony Brook opens its season against No. 3 Syracuse Sunday at 4 p.m.
 
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEWLAX this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

Offensive Player of the Week
Dymin Gerow, UMBC – So., Attack, Baltimore, Md.
  • Opened the season with six goals and an assist against Longwood.
  • She scored on every shot she took and also caused a turnover.
  • This is her second Player of the Week nod of her career after earning the award once in her freshman season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Carolyn Carrera, Vermont – Sr., Defense, Harriman, N.Y.
  • Scooped up a team-high seven ground balls in win over Colgate.
  • Carrera caused three turnovers.
  • This is her first career Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Kolby Weedon, UMBC – So., Attack, Catonsville, Md.
  • Scored four goals and added an assist in her first collegiate game.
  • Also tallied five draw controls in the win over Longwood.
