#AEMSOC Week 7: UAlbany, UNH & Vermont Remain Unbeaten

BOSTON – No. 15 Vermont recorded its third straight conference shutout, while UNH also improved to 3-0 and UAlbany earned a draw to stay unbeaten in conference play this past weekend.
 
The Catamounts own the nation’s longest win streak at eight and are 10th in the first RPI report of 2022. They put their streak on the line twice this week, facing UMass on Tuesday and then hosting NJIT on Saturday evening. The Wildcats host Northeastern on Tuesday before traveling to square off against UAlbany on Friday night. UMBC looks for its second conference win against Bryant on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.

Offensive Player of the Week

Ryan Becher, UMBC – Sr., Midfielder, Hummelstown, Pa.
  • Recorded a six-point effort in UMBC's 5-1 victory over UMass Lowell.
  • Assisted on both of UMBC's first-half goals and scored twice in the second half to lead the team to victory.
  • This is Becher’s second career #AEMSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor, previously winning in 2021.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Mats Roorda, Binghamton – Sr., Goalkeeper, Groningen, Holland
  • Went 1-0-1 with a 0.50 GAA and a .909 save percentage, including a conference shutout.
  • Posted six saves in 90 minutes to earn a 0-0 draw with UAlbany, who is currently third in the America East standings.
  • Made one three saves with one goal allowed and recorded an assist on the game-tying goal in a 2-1 victory over Bucknell.  
 
Rookie of the Week
Lasse Kelp, UMBC – Fr., Back, Bonn, Germany
  • Played 83 minutes on defense to help lead UMBC to a 5-1 win over UMass Lowell.
  • Helped team to first conference win and has played 80+ minutes in all 11 contests this year.
  • This is Kelp’s second #AEMSOC Rookie of the Week honor.

America East is one of the best men’s soccer conferences in the country. Four teams have reached the third round of the NCAA tournament since 2014, including UMBC getting all the way to the College Cup in 2014. The conference has received multiple bids to the NCAA tournament in three of last seven seasons, including in 2021 when both UNH and league champion Vermont received bids.

Fans will once again be able to watch nearly every #AEMSOC contest this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV.
