STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The 2021 America East Women’s Lacrosse Championship Game will feature two heavyweights with a strong familiarity with one another. #1 Stony Brook and #2 UAlbany will again play for the league title on Saturday at 1 p.m. on ESPN3.
The Seawolves won their eighth consecutive regular-season title and extended their historic conference win streak to 53 with a win over UMBC in the semifinals on Thursday. The Great Danes earned a top-two seed for the seventh consecutive season and topped Vermont in the semis. Thus setting up a rematch for the ninth-straight year.
Stony Brook Seawolves (13-2, 8-0)
- Stony Brook holds the longest active conference winning streak in DI sports.
- The Seawolves have allowed 8.3 goals per game, the eighth-fewest average in the country.
- The sixth-ranked team in the country set a new conference championship record with 25 goals against UMBC.
- With a win on Saturday, the team would win its eighth championship in a row, extending the league record.
- Attacker of the Year Taryn Ohlmiller leads the league in points per game and assists per game.
- Midfielder of the Year Ally Kennedy leads the league in goals per game and tied a conference championship record with seven goals in the semifinals.
UAlbany Great Danes (11-6, 7-2)
- Appearing in tenth-straight championship game, the most consecutive appearances in league history.
- Seeking third #AEWLAX title and first since 2012.
- The Great Danes lead the league in assists and penalty killing percentage.
- Rookie of the Year Katie Pascale ranks second in the conference in assists against league opponents and third in points.
- First-team All-Conference selection Kyla Zapolski scored a game-high four goals in the semifinals against Vermont.
