Stony Brook and UAlbany Return to #AEWLAX Title Game

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – For the ninth consecutive time, Stony Brook and UAlbany will meet in the #AEWLAX championship game. The league’s top-two seeds advanced to the finals with powering wins in the semifinals on Thursday.
 
The top-ranked Seawolves opened championship play with a record-setting 25-13 win over four-seed UMBC. The Seawolves' 25 goals set a new America East postseason record. The Great Danes led wire-to-wire against three-seed Vermont to advance in the second semifinal.
 
The title game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday on ESPN3 with Johnny Wincott and Kylie Ohlmiller on the call. The winner advances to the NCAA Championship.
 
#1 Stony Brook 25, #4 UMBC 13
  • UMBC began the game on a 4-0 run, holding Stony Brook scoreless for the first seven minutes.
  • Midfielder of the Year Ally Kennedy scored first for the Seawolves on a free-position shot.
  • Attacker of the Year Taryn Ohlmiller tied the game at five with just over ten minutes remaining in the half and Kennedy buried her second of the game on the ensuing draw to give the Seawolves their first lead.
  • The Midfielder of the Year had four of Stony Brook’s 11 first-half goals as the team led by three at the break.
  • Freshman Lillian Begley led the way for the Retrievers in the first 30 with five goals.
  • The Seawolves dominated possession in the second half and finished the game with a 45-22 shot advantage.
  • Kennedy tied the single-game conference championship record with seven goals.
  • First-team All-Conference selection Claire Bockstie finished with six goals and eight points to lead the Retrievers.
  • The Seawolves set a new mark for most goals in a championship contest, topping their previous mark of 22 set in 2018.
 
#2 UAlbany 17, #3 Vermont 8
  • UAlbany roared to an 8-0 advantage to start the game.
  • The Great Danes lead 11-4 at the half behind nine caused turnovers.
  • Four Danes tallied hat tricks led by first-team All-Conference pick Madison Conway who had six points on three goals and a trio of helpers.
  • UAlbany netminder Georgia Schneidereith saved 11 Catamounts shots.
  • The Great Danes caused 14 turnovers to tie a season-high.
  • First-team All-Conference selection Ava Vasile scored twice for Vermont.
  • Juniors Maris Large and Taylor Mullen each had three-point nights for the Catamounts.
  • All-Conference first-teamer Kyla Zapolski netted a game-high four goals for the Great Danes.
 
The Seawolves advanced to their ninth-straight title game and will go for the eight-peat on Saturday. The Great Danes are one win away from the NCAA tournament for the tenth-straight season and seek their first #AEWLAX title since 2012 and third overall.
