STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The America East champion Stony Brook Seawolves emphatically punched their ticket to a third NCAA Quarterfinals appearance in four tournaments with a 20-8 win over Rutgers on Sunday.
The Seawolves are the first #AEWLAX program to advance to the quarterfinals of the national tournament three separate times, all of which have come since 2017. Grad student Taryn Ohlmiller continued her tear with four goals and eight assists, tying a single-game NCAA postseason record for assists. The record is now shared by current UAlbany Head Coach Katie Rowan Thomson. Ohlmiller’s 12 points came within one of Thomson’s single-game postseason points record and the attacker has now compiled 19 points through the first two rounds this May.
Kaeli Huff scored a career-best six goals, Ally Kennedy found the net four times and Bridget Considine tallied four helpers. Goalkeeper Kameron Halsall finished with seven saves and seven goals allowed.
The eighth-seeded Seawolves will take on the tournament’s top seed North Carolina next weekend at Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels were Stony Brook’s opponent in the 2021 season-opener at UNC with the home team winning by a 14-7 margin.
With a win next weekend, the Seawolves would advance farther than any #AEWLAX team and would book a spot for Championship Weekend.
