Kyle McClancy, Kylie Ohlmiller Honored as 2017-18 America East Man, Woman of Year
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Lacrosse All-Americans and standout student-athletes Kyle McClancy and Kylie Ohlmiller are the 2017-18 America East Man and Woman of the Year, respectively, it was announced at the conference’s annual awards dinner Tuesday evening.
These Man and Woman of the Year awards honor the conference's top male and female senior student-athletes who have best distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.
2017-18 America East Man of the Year
Kyle McClancy - Albany, Lacrosse
- Graduated with a 3.93 GPA majoring in business.
- America East Presidential Scholar Athlete.
- 2017 America East Men’s Lacrosse Student-Athlete.
- Two-time All-American.and two-time America East First-Team All-Conference selection.
- Volunteers to support initiatives involving children in need including JPs Wide World of Sports, enCourage Kids Foundation and Capitol Region Miracle League Charity Challenge.
2017-18 America East Woman of the Year
Kylie Ohlmiller, Stony Brook - Lacrosse
- Graduated with a 3.24 GPA majoring in sociology and minoring in business.
- 2017 and 2018 Tewaaraton Award Finalist.
- Two-time first-team All-American and two-time America East Offensive Player of the Year.
- Four-time First-Team All-Conference selection.
- NCAA career points and assists leader.
- Devoted to several youth lacrosse initiatives including Play It Forward and Challenger Lacrosse.
The winners were chosen from three finalists announced on May 29. Maine’s Sam Lenson and Stony Brook’s Tyler Anderson were the other two Man of the Year finalists while Maine’s Erika Leonard and New Hampshire’s Casey Lauter were the other two finalists for Woman of the Year. Finalists Release
The finalists were selected from a pool of the America East institutional nominations, 11 men and 14 women, which were announced on May 17. Nominee Release
To be nominated, student-athletes must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in their primary sport by the end of the 2018 spring season or received their undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the summer 2018 term and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.500 (4.000 scale).
America East began honoring a Woman of the Year in 2006 and introduced the Man of the Year award in 2015.
Ohlmiller will be forwared to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee, which will identify the Top 30 – 10 from each division – and from there selects three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women’s Athletics then selects the winner from the nine finalists. All 30 Woman of the Year honorees will be recognized and the 2018 Woman of the Year will be announced at an awards dinner on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 in Indianapolis. In 2017, Stony Brook’s Christina Melian and New Hampshire’s Laura Rose Donegan were each among the Top 10 Division I honorees and Melian was among the top three Division finalists.
