2017-18 America East Man & Woman of the Year Finalists Unveiled
BOSTON - The America East Conference unveiled today the finalists for the 2017 America East Man & Woman of the Year awards. These awards honor the conference's top male and female senior student-athletes who have best distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.
Woman of Year Finalists
Casey Lauter, New Hampshire - Gymnastics
- Graduated with a 3.92 GPA majoring in Kinesiology/Exercise Science.
- EAGL conference champion; scored a perfect 10 on balance beam.
- 2018 EAGL 1st Team Balance Beam.
- Works one-on-one with cardiac rehabilitation patients.
Erika Leonard, Maine - Softball
- Graduated with a 3.83 GPA as a nursing major.
- America East Presidential Scholar Athlete.
- Three-time America East All-Academic selection.
- Two-time second-team All-Conference selection.
- Served as an academic peer tutor.
Kylie Ohlmiller, Stony Brook - Lacrosse
- Graduated with a 3.24 GPA majoring in sociology and minoring in business.
- 2017 and 2018 Tewaaraton Award Finalist.
- Two-time first-team All-American and two-time America East Offensive Player of the Year.
- Four-time First-Team All-Conference selection.
- NCAA career points and assists leader.
- Devoted to several youth lacrosse initiatives including Play It Forward and Challenger Lacrosse.
Man of Year Finalists
Tyler Anderson, Stony Brook - Lacrosse,
- Graduated with 3.76 GPA majoring in biology with a concentration in neurobiology and behavior.
- America East Presidential Scholar Athlete.
- 2018 America East All-Academic selection.
- Stony Brook ambassador who spends significant time volunteering with Invited Inn Soup Kitchen and the Stony Brook University Hospital.
Sam Lenson, Maine - Football
- Graduated with a 3.60 GPA majoring in kinesiology.
- Four-year CAA Academic All-Conference Team selection.
- Volunteered with Male Athletes Against Violence at local elementary schools.
- Organized programs that focused on eating well and teaching children the benefits of having a healthy and active lifestyle.
Kyle McClancy - Albany, Lacrosse
- Graduated with a 3.93 GPA majoring in business.
- America East Presidential Scholar Athlete.
- 2017 America East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
- Two-time All-American.and two-time America East First-Team All-Conference selection.
- Volunteers to support initiatives involving children in need including JPs Wide World of Sports, enCourage Kids Foundation and Capitol Region Miracle League Charity Challenge.
The finalists were selected from a pool of the America East institutional nominations, which were announced on May 17. Nominee Release
To be nominated, student-athletes must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in their primary sport by the end of the 2018 spring season or received their undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the summer 2018 term and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.500 (4.000 scale).
The 2017-18 America East Man and Woman of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 5 at the conference's annual awards dinner.
