CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire's women's
squad and the University at Albany's men's team lead the field after day one of
the 2010 Indoor Track and Field Championship.
Boston University freshman Allison Barwise (Orange, Conn.) captured the first title of the
day in the women's pentathlon. Barwise won the event with an ECAC-qualifying
mark of 3,571 points. Freshman teammate Nikko Brady (New Castle, Del.) later earned a title for
squad in the women's long jump, finishing first with a leap of 5.79m.
UMBC junior Sara Parkinson (Chorley,
England/Loughborough University) claimed the women's 5,000m run
title in 16:47.69, a season-best mark, while Stony Brook senior Tim Hodge (Tawa,
New Zealand/Victoria University) took home gold in the men's 5k
run with a time of 14:29.16. Hodge's time qualifies him for the IC4A
championship in March.
The Seawolves women's distance medley relay team also captured a
title on the first day, crossing the finish line in first with an
ECAC-qualifying time of 11:43.01. The mark was less than a second off the
America East record.
In the field events, Albany junior Celine Cauderlier (Entzhein, France/Lycee Louis Pasteur/Université
Louis Pasteur) won the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.52m. Wildcat
senior Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne,
N.Y./Sherburne-Earlville) also claimed a title, placing first in the women's
weight throw with a mark of 17.88m.
Albany junior Elias Wilfredo de Jesus (Arroyo, P.R./Natividad Rodriguez Gonzalez) won the
men's weight throw with a mark over four feet better than his closest competitor.
Senior teammate Luke Schoen (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) posted
another victory for the Great Danes, winning the pole vault with a mark of
5.10m.
Albany finished the day on a high note with wins in the men's
distance medley relay and the men's long jump. Seniors Valete Graham (Bronx,
N.Y./Mount St. Michael) and Nasim Siddeeq (New Hampton, N.Y./Goshen
Central/Robert Morris) went 1-2 in the men's long jump with marks of 7.16m
and 7.14m, respectively.
After four events in the heptathlon, Boston U. junior
Richard Haigh (Orange, Conn.) tops the
field with 2,867 points.
The 2010 Indoor Track and Field Championship concludes
Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. with the men's heptathlon finals. The meet will end
with the men's 4x400m relay, beginning shortly after 3:00 p.m. An awards
ceremony will follow the conclusion of the relay.
