Kate Bergstrom is in her ninth year at America East and was promoted to Executive Associate Commissionerin July, 2023. She served as Interim Commissioner of America East from August-September, 2021.
Bergstrom's responsibilities include oversight of the conference's finances and budget, human resources and general business operations.
She also leads many of the conference's leadership initiatives, including Spread Respect, health and safety and mental health. She will assume the SWA role and will work with the SWA Committee while continuing as the primary liaison for several key conference groups, including the Health & Safety and Student-Athlete Engagement Committees. Bergstrom also serves as the conference's primary administrative contact and championship director for select sports.
Bergstrom currently serves on the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Committee and as a member of Women Leaders in College Sports Education and Professional Development Committee. Bergstrom also serves as a member of the American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APAF)’s College Edition Work Group, assisting with a program to ensure coaches and staff are better able to help students who are experiencing mental health problems connect to appropriate assessment and care.
Prior to joining America East in 2015, Bergstrom worked at Brafton, a Boston-based marketing firm, as a business development executive. Before Brafton, Bergstrom was a corporate paralegal at Sullivan & Worcester, LLP in Boston for two and half years.
Bergstrom, a native of San Francisco, has attended Women Leaders in College Sports Institute of Administrative Advancement and worked as an NCAA site rep at the Field Hockey Championship first rounds. She earned her degree in 2011 from Colgate University, where she was a four-year women’s lacrosse student-athlete and served as a captain her senior season. Bergstrom and her wife, Katelyn Nerbonne, reside in East Boston.
