MYSTIC, Conn. – For the first time in conference history Vermont has claimed the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup, as the Catamounts took home the 2025-26 Commissioner’s Cup on Tuesday evening at the conference’s annual awards dinner.
The Catamounts captured the Commissioner’s Cup with 320 total points, thanks in part to four regular season title and two tournament championships. UMBC finished second with 318 points, tied for the closest finish in league history in conference history. The Retrievers claimed four tournament championships during the season with two regular season titles. Bryant was close behind in third place with 308 points while Binghamton placed fourth with 285 and UAlbany was fifth with 277.

Need to Know:
- Vermont won its first Commissioner’s Cup with 320 points. The previous best finish by the Catamounts was in 2021-22 when they took second overall behind UAlbany.
- UVM earned a league-record 75 percent of the points available.
- The Catamounts led the league with four regular season titles and had all seven of its team sports appear in a conference championship game.
- UMBC earned its first top-two finish with a school-record 318 points, surpassing its 2007-08 total of 314 points. The previous best finish for the Retrievers was third place, which they have done eight times.
- Bryant took third with 308 points after winning the Cup with 352 points last year and taking third in 2023-24 with 313 points.
- Vermont and UMBC were separated by just two points, tied for the closest finish in conference history. Stony Brook edged UAlbany 296-294 in 2020-21 and Boston University beat UAlbany 397-395 in 2011-12.
- The top three schools were separated by just 12 points in the standings. It is the closest finish between the top three schools in league history. The closest previous finish between the top three was 22 points in 2023-34, between Binghamton (335), UAlbany (325) and Bryant (313).
- This marks the third straight year, but only the third time since 2016-17 that three schools have surpassed 300 points.
- UAlbany led all schools with 126 points during the spring season, followed by Bryant with 112 and Binghamton with 98.
- Eight different schools won a conference championship this year, with six winning at least two.
- Three different programs won their first-ever conference championships last year: Maine women’s cross country, Bryant women’s swimming & diving and UMBC women’s track & field.
Catamount Excellence
- Vermont won its first Commissioner’s Cup with 320 points as all seven of the team sports it sponsors reached a conference championship game.
- The seven championship game appearances by a single school are the most since UAlbany had eight during the 2016-17 season.
- The Catamounts won two titles and had five runner-up finishes as both men’s soccer team and women’s basketball claimed their second straight conference titles.
- Vermont field hockey and women’s lacrosse each earned a share of their first regular season championships and hosted conference championship games in Burlington.
Championship Streaks
- UAlbany women’s track and field won its 17th straight outdoor championship, the longest streak in league history.
- UMass Lowell men’s cross country earned its sixth straight America East Championship, the longest active men’s championship streak
- UAlbany women’s lacrosse appeared in its 15th straight championship game, winning its third title in the past four seasons.
- UAlbany men’s lacrosse won its third straight conference championship.
- Vermont women’s basketball has appeared in four consecutive conference championship games.
