#AEBASE Week 9: Binghamton Surges Into First Place
BOSTON – The Binghamton Bearcats moved into first place in the #AEBASE standings over the weekend with an impressive three-game sweep of UMBC. Additionally, Bryan elevated to second by taking two of three from UAlbany. In the final series, UMass Lowell took two of three from NJIT.
Halfway through the season for some programs, the Bearcats (9-3) sit two games ahead of the Bulldogs (7-5). UMBC and Maine are tied for third at 5-4, while UAlbany (5-7), UMass Lowell (5-7) and NJIT (3-9) round out the standings.
This weekend, Binghamton hosts Bryant in a battle of the top two teams in the standings while Maine visits NJIT and UMBC battles UMass Lowell.
#AEBASE Weekly Award Winners – April 14
Player of the Week
Ellis Garcia, Bryant – Sr., Third Base, Elmwood Park, N.J.
- Had a 1.436 OPS in four games.
- Registered a 1.914 OPS in league play with a slash line of .555/.692/1.222 in a series win vs. UAlbany.
- Hit two home runs, drove in six runs, scored three and walked four times.
- This is Pepe’s first #AEBASE Player of the Week honor of the season.
Pitcher of the Week
Jackson Mitchell, Binghamton – Jr., Pitcher, Warwick, N.Y.
- Fired five scoreless innings in a win over UMBC.
- Allowed just three hits and two walks.
- Fanned a career-best seven hitters.
- This is Mitchell’s first #AEBASE Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Hunter St. Denis, Maine – Fr., First Base, Laytonsville, Md.
- Had a 1.611 OPS in four games.
- Had two home runs, scored four runs and drove in six.
- This is St. Denis’ first #AEBASE Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
