Monmouth University Added as Associate Member in Field Hockey

BOSTON – The America East Conference today announced the addition of Monmouth University as an associate member in the sport of field hockey, effective for the 2019-20 season.

“We are excited to add Monmouth University as an associate member in field hockey,” said America East Commissioner, Amy Huchthausen. “Monmouth has built a nationally competitive field hockey program within our region and will be a great fit for our conference.”

“Monmouth is very excited about the opportunity to join the America East as an associate member in the sport of field hockey,” said Monmouth Vice President and Director of Athletics, Marilyn McNeil. “America East is an excellent conference and we look forward to the challenging and competitive environment that will be provided by the America East membership.”

Monmouth, which will begin the program’s 22nd year of Division I competition this fall, has been a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference since the 2013 season, earning four straight regular season titles, while making two NCAA Tournament appearances. In the classroom, Monmouth has earned  ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad recognition for nine consecutive years. 

“This is a great day for Monmouth field hockey and we are thrilled about the next chapter for the program,” said Monmouth head coach, Carli Figlio. “It has been a tremendous honor competing against the teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and we hope to carry our success into the America East beginning in 2019.”

Monmouth will join America East members University at Albany, University of Maine, UMass Lowell, University of New Hampshire and University of Vermont along with University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Davis, University of the Pacific and Stanford University as the conference’s field hockey-playing institutions for the 2019 season. The America East schools and Monmouth will comprise the East Division while the four California schools will make up the West Division. The the top four teams in the East Division standings and top two in the West Division will qualify for the America East University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Davis, University of the Pacific and Stanford University.hampionship, to be played at the East No. 1 seed Nov. 7-9.
