CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
– The Binghamton Bearcats earned a split of a four-game series on the road
against VMI over the weekend and swept the third week of the America East
Baseball Weekly honors.
Leftfielder Jake Thomas was named Player of the Week, senior
pitcher Jay Lynch was named Pitcher of the Week and freshman
reliever/designated hitter Jake Cryts was named Rookie of the Week
Thomas (Merrick, N.Y.) led the conference in batting (.538),
on-base percentage (.667), runs batted in (7) and slugging percentage (.769) on
his way to Player of the Week honors. The outfielder had seven hits in 13
at-bats along with six walks, reaching base 13 times in 19 plate appearances
for the weekend. Thomas had at-least one hit and one RBI in each of the four
games. During the team's 10-run final at-bat rally in game 3, Thomas came up
twice in the seventh inning and had two hits and three RBI (in the inning). He
also tied a school record with four walks in game 2 of the series.
Lynch (Exton, Pa.) tossed six shutout innings, allowing only
three hits and striking out three in a no decision against VMI. He left the
game with a 4-0 lead and did not walk a single batter in his outing.
Cryts (Schuylkill Haven, Pa.) earned his first collegiate
win after going two innings in relief during Binghamton’s 12-inning 9-7 win at
VMI. Cryts allowed only one hit and struck out three without allowing a run. He
also went 2-for-4 in the series finale on Sunday as a DH with a pair of
singles.
