CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
– Three different teams earned awards in week three of America East Women’s
Lacrosse weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday.
Albany senior Rachel Burek was named Offensive Player of the
Week, while Stony Brook goalie Franki Caridi earned Defensive Player of the
Week, and Boston University freshman Ally Adams was named Rookie of the Week.
Burek (Rennsselaear, N.Y.) scored six goals and added three
assists to total nine points in Albany’s 15-4 win over Bryant. The nine points
were the second highest single game total in Great Dane history and the second
highest in a single game in the America East this season. Burek’s six goals
came on seven shots, netting what proved to be the game-winner with 8:30 to go
in the first half.
Caridi (East Northport, N.Y.) was an instrumental part of
Stony Brook’s 19-3 win over Central Connecticut, anchoring a defensive that
tied the school record for fewest goals allowed in a game. Caridi allowed three
goals while making five stops and recording a game-high four ground balls to go
with one caused turnover.
Adams (Severna Park, Md.) assists on a pair of Boston U.
goals as the Terriers upset No. 12/14 Massachusetts in their season-opener on
Wednesday. She added a pair of ground balls as well, and assisted on the third
and fourth Boston U. goals, tying the game in the first half. The Terriers went
on to win 9-8, beating the Minutewomen for the first time since 2008.
