UMBC, SBU, Albany, Binghamton To Vie For Men's Lacrosse Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The 2009 America East Men's Lacrosse Championship gets underway with semifinal action Wednesday night at UMBC and Stony Brook, followed by the title game Saturday at the highest remaining seed. Links for live video, radio broadcasts and live stats can be found below.

The Bearcats (3-11, 2-3 America East) downed Hartford (2-11, 1-4) 11-9 in a battle for the fourth and final bid at Bearcats Sports Complex. Jake Boyce and Steve Carlson each scored twice for Binghamton, which will face top-seeded UMBC (12-3, 4-1) for the second straight year in the semis after nearly upsetting the Retrievers before falling in overtime in 2008.

The Retrievers, who have earned at least a share of the last five regular-season titles, bounced back from their loss at Hartford with an 18-5 trouncing over Vermont (4-10, 1-4) at UMBC Stadium to earn the No. 1 seed for the second straight year.

The Seawolves (8-5, 4-1) edged Albany (7-6, 3-2) 13-12 at LaValle Stadium to capture a share of the regular-season crown and earn the tournament's No. 2 seed. SBU, which achieved its best seed since 2006, will host the No. 3 Great Danes again Wednesday in the other semifinal at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the two semifinal contests can be purchased through the UMBC and Stony Brook ticket offices. Prices are $8 for adults, $5 for youth and $2 for students of America East institutions with proper ID.Tickets for the UMBC-Binghamton semi may be obtained in person from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., online or by calling 410-455-2198. Box office hours are weekdays 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
