WASHINGTON, D.C. - UMBC's Jeremy Blevins and Boston University's Sarah Dalton have been named nominees for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award, given to the top player in both men's and women's lacrosse. The candidates were selected by a panel of men's and women's coaches across all three divisions and announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation Wednesday morning.
Blevins, the first-team all-conference goaltender last season, is a prime reason why the Retrievers are 9-2 overall and ranked sixth in the nation. The senior leads the league and ranks eighth in the nation with a 7.51 goals against average and is 16th with a .574 save percentage. Blevins was named America East Player of the Week on April 6 after holding Towson and Binghamton to eight combined goals and making 22 saves in the two UMBC wins.
Dalton, the defending America East Player of the Year and an All-American a year ago, is the national leader in both points (68) and goals (60). Dalton, who became the Terriers' all-time scoring leader last week, has led her team to an 11-3 mark and a No. 11 national ranking. She has been named America East Player of the Week twice already this season.
The Tewaarton Trophy recipients will be announced May 28 as part of a ceremony at the University Club in Washington, D.C.
