Men’s Outdoor Track and Field
? Joe Greene won three individual events, including a record-setting performance of 47.09 in the 400 meters, to earn Most Outstanding Track Performer honors and lead Albany to its third-straight America East Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Baltimore. The Great Danes’ 268 points shattered the previous conference mark of 230 and their 114-point margin was the largest in the 19-year history of the event.
? Rory Quiller of Binghamton continued his assault on the America East record book, establishing yet another mark in the pole vault (16-08.75).
? Boston University’s 4x800 relay team set a conference record, while UMBC’s Keith Brown, the Most Outstanding Rookie, tied a record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.46.
? Reed Liset of New Hampshire, who won both the discus and the hammer, was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer.
? Greene, Quiller and Marc Pallozzi of Albany each earned All-America honors at the NCAA Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Sacramento, Calif. Greene was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.92. Quiller tied for fourth in the pole vault at 17-06.50. Pallozzi was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 224-05. Gered Burns of Albany also competed in the national meet in the 800 meters. Quiller had advanced to the championship after setting the NCAA East Regional record with 18-01.00 at Gainesville, Fla.
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field
? Albany edged New Hampshire, 162-156, to win its second-straight America East Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Baltimore. The margin of victory was the second-closest in the 19-year history of the event. The championship wasn’t decided until the final event, when Albany’s 4x400-meter relay team of Anisha Andrews, Jennifer Gurrant, Ashley Vives and Adanna Andrews finished in second place with a time of 3:48.33.
? Kim Williams of Binghamton, who won the 200 meters and contributed to the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, was named Most Outstanding Track Performer.
? Ashley Fauntleroy of UMBC, who won the shot put and discus and was third in the hammer, was named Most Outstanding Field Performer.
? Ebony Cotterell of Boston University was named the Most Outstanding Rookie after winning the 100 meters and finishing second in the 200 meters.
? Cathy Parker of New Hampshire finished 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Sacramento, Calif. Parker ran 10:08.16 in the final after setting a personal record of 10:06.45 in the preliminaries. She had advanced to the national championship with a record 10:13.69 in the America East Championship at Baltimore. Marisa Ryan of Boston University also competed at the national championship in the 10,000 meters. Ryan had gained entry by winning that event with a time of 34:11.32 at the prestigious Penn Relays.
