? Albany earned its fourth America East Men’s Lacrosse Championship in five years with a 15-14 win over UMBC in front of a crowd of 1,293 at John Fallon Field in Albany. Only the ACC had a higher attended championship game.
? Albany and UMBC were both selected to the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The Great Danes defeated Loyola, 19-10, while UMBC upset Maryland, 13-9, to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
? America East and the ACC were the only conferences in the nation with two teams in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
? Albany won a school-record 15 games, including regular-season wins over seven ranked opponents, before falling to No. 1 Cornell, 12-11 in overtime, in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
? Albany, which was ranked No. 2 throughout most of the year, was one of three America East teams (UMBC and Stony Brook were the others) to be ranked in the Top 20 during the season.
? Frank Resetarits of Albany, was one of five finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy, which annually recognizes the top men’s lacrosse player in the nation. Resetarits, who finished second in the nation in goals and third in points, and Drew Westervelt of UMBC, who was fifth in scoring, were two of the three finalists for the Jack Turnbull Award, given to the nation’s top attackman.
? Resetarits was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American first team, the first such honor for an America East player since 2001. Albany’s Jordan Levine was named to the second team while teammate Merrick Thompson, and Westervelt were chosen to the third team. Andy Gallagher and Terry Kimener of UMBC and Brett Queener of Albany received honorable mention accolades.
? Brendan Callahan and Larry Cerasi of Stony Brook joined Westervelt, Resetarits and Thomson, as selections for the 66th Annual USILA North-South All-Star Game. The event was held in conjunction with the Men’s Lacrosse Semifinals and Championship.
? UMBC was a co-host of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Semifinals and Championship which drew a championship game-record 48,443 fans to Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium. The championship weekend, which includes the Division I semifinals and the championship games in Division I, II and III attracted a record 123,225 to Baltimore.
? Albany hosted an NCAA First Round game at John Fallon Field, drawing 2,953 fans for the nationally-televised game on ESPNU.
? Stony Brook hosted the Major League Challenge at LaVallee Stadium on May 31. The MLL Draft followed the game at the Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center on campus.
? UMBC’s Drew Westervelt (fourth), Albany’s Frank Resetarits (22nd) and Vermont’s Peter Hein (49th) were all selected in the 5-round collegiate draft.
