Upon review of an incident that occurred during the September 16, 2017 men's soccer non-conference contest between the University of Hartford and Iona College, the America East Conference has hereby issued a public reprimand to Gael Kisombe, Hartford student-athlete, who received a red card for fighting during the game. Unsportsmanlike conduct is never acceptable, but when that conduct includes action that poses a potential health and safety concern, there is a higher level of scrutiny.
In accordance with NCAA playing rules, Mr. Kisombe will automatically be suspended for his team's next two contests. Additionally, Hartford head coach Tom Poitras has suspended Mr. Kisombe for a third game. The conference supports these actions and is appreciative of the University of Hartford's cooperation in this matter.
The America East expects its student-athletes and coaches to be mindful of their behavior and conduct at all times. We also support an environment that protects the health and safety of our teams. The well-being of our student-athletes is paramount and we will be vigilant to ensure that is not compromised.
