#AEHoops Champions Highlight 16 AE Programs Honored With APR Public Recognition Awards

BOSTON - America East's respective men's and women's basketball champions, Stony Brook University and University at Albany, highlighted the conference's 16 athletic programs that received NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards, the NCAA announced Wednesday. These teams were honored for posting APR scores in the top 10 percent of their sport based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate.

University of Hartford led the conference with four programs honored while University of New Hampshire and Stony Brook each had three and University of Vermont had two. Albany, Binghamton University and University of Vermont each had one and Stanford field hockey, an associate member for the 2016 season, was also honored. Additionally, five programs from America East schools who compete in sports the conference doesn't sponsor were also recognized.

“We want to ensure college athletes are getting the most out of their experience, and academics are a top priority in this effort,” said NCAA President Mark Emmert. “The teams honored today earned recognition by making a commitment to success in the classroom as well as in competition. We celebrate their achievement and dedication to preparing themselves for life after college.”

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.

APR Public Recognition Awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sport, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rates. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2011-2012, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
