Five America East Student-Athletes Selected to Academic All-District T&F/XC Teams

BOSTON, Mass. - The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Five America East student-athletes, three men and two women, have been recognized as members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida) Capital One Academic All-District Teams.  New Hampshire has three total representatives, and Vermont garners two.

UNH’s seniors Kevin Green and John Prizzi each were selected to the Men’s Division I First Team.  Prizzi came in fifth in the 5,000-meter, and won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championship.  Greene scored eighth in the 1,500-meter run for the Wildcats.  Both men will be performing at the NCAA East Preliminaries at the University of North Florida.

At the indoor conference championship, Greene won gold in the mile run, and was part of the champion DMR team. 

Prizzi took home second in both the 5,000-meter and 3,000-meter races at the indoor meet, and to start off the year, the senior Wycoff, New Jersey native placed second at the America East Cross Country Championship

Academically, Prizzi holds a 3.62 GPA studying oceanography, and Greene holds a 3.90 accumulative, majoring in English education.

Martin Kallur of Vermont is the third America East competitor to be selected to the Men’s Capital One Academic All-District First Team.  The winner of the indoor track & field Elite 18 award winner; the junior holds a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in both political science and Italian studies.  This is the second consecutive year that Kallur has been selected.

At the indoor conference meet, In addition to the Elite 18, Kallur scored the coaches award at the indoor championship, recording the most points out of competing male athlete.

At the America East Outdoor Championship, Kallur came in third in the pole vault, and fourth in the long jump.

On the women’s Division I First Team, UNH is represented by two-time Elite 18 Award winner, Anne Twombly.  The senior maintains a 3.82 GPA, with a major in fine arts.  Capping off her final outdoor season, the distance runner-forte won the 800-meter, and 5,000-meter races at the conference outdoor championship.  Most recently, she took home gold at the New England Championship (NEICAAA) in the 1,500-meter.

During the conference indoor track & field championship, Twombly won the mile and 800-meter race.  The senior started off the year by placing fifth at the America East Cross Country Championship.

With a 3.98 GPA, Vermont’s Alicia Clark earned a selection, majoring in business administration.  The senior has had a consistent career as a Catamount; at this year’s outdoor track & field championship she came in seventh in the 10,000-meter race.

On the campus of Maine to start the year, Clack came in eighth in the cross-country championship.  Come the indoor meet, the senior garnered third in the 5,000-meter.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, which will be voted on later this month.
