Stony Brook, N.Y. - For the third time in four seasons, the Stony Brook women's tennis team will head to the Bay Area as the NCAA selection committee has paired the Seawolves with No. 14 Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Stony Brook, which will be making its fourth straight postseason appearance, will face the No. 14 Cardinal on Friday, May 8 at 5 p.m. ET.
The Seawolves faced Stanford in 2012 and returned the following year to play California.
Stony Brook (16-1) beat Albany, 4-0, to capture the America East title. Senior Polina Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine), the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, is 10-1 in dual singles matches and 15-6 overall.
Sophomore Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.) and junior Louise Badoche (Paris, France) lead the charge in doubles play. The duo is 9-3 in No. 1 doubles action and 15-7 in 2014-15.
Stanford (15-5) will make its 34th straight appearance in the tournament.
The Stony Brook-Stanford winner will face Pepperdine/Auburn in the second round.
