Louise Badoche Named the #AETEN Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University at Albany had a match on the road against Syracuse, and then returned home to battle Marist.  The Bearcats of Binghamton played against Fairleigh Dickinson and Siena.  UMBC travelled to Temple to swing against the Owls and Stony Brook travelled to West Point, New York to play against Connecticut and Army.  NJIT had three matches; the Highlanders were served up against Akron, Liberty and Youngstown State.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Louise Badoche, Stony Brook, Junior, Paris, France

  • Louise Badoche went undefeated this past week in Stony Brook’s two meets against Connecticut and Army. 
  • Badoche teamed with Nadia Smergut and won her doubles matches 6-0 against the Huskies and 6-4 against the Black Knights.
  • The junior won 6-4, 7-6 (4) against Summer Walker of Connecticut, and 7-5, 6-4 against Maya Parker of Army.

Women’s Tennis Notes

  • The Great Danes travelled to Syracuse, New York and fell to the Orange 7-0.  Freshman Ana Glumac and Sophomore Alba Sala teamed up to win a doubles match for Albany.
  • Albany rebounded after their lost to Syracuse and won in against the Marist Red Foxes 7-0.  The Great Danes won every match; the doubles pairing of Glumac/Sala (6-1), Kirsten Scott/Chassidy King (6-0), and Cheryl Kukkonen/Dajana Ognjenovic (6-1) all controlled their matchups.  Here are the victorious singles players: Ognjenovic (6-2, 6-3), Glumac (6-4, 7-5), Sala (6-1. 6-0), Mireille Hermans (6-1, 6-2), Scott (6-1, 6-2), and King (6-0, 6-4).
  • Binghamton University picked up a win at home against Fairliegh Dickinson, 4-3.  The two victories in doubles came from the pairings of Shea Brodsky/Alexis Tashiro (7-6 (7-5)), and Agatha Ambrozy/Katherine Medianik (6-3).  The singles victories came from Alexis Tashiro (6-3, 6-3), and Agatha Ambrozy (6-0, 5-7, 6-2).  Binghamton also won two matches via forfeit.
  • The Bearcats improved to 3-1 in dual matches on the season when they travelled to Loudonville, New York to play against the Siena Saints.  Binghamton won two of the three doubles matches: Tashiro/ Brodsky (7-6 (1)) and Medianik/Ambrozy (6-2).  Bearcats took three single singles matches: Annie DiMuro (1-6, 6-3, 6-0), Brodsky (6-0, 6-4), and Medianik (7-5, 3-6, 6-0).
  • UMBC had one match this week against the Temple.  The Retrievers fell to Owls despite winning the double point.  Freshmen Hanna Victorsson/ Charlotte Tonjann won their doubles match 6-3, and teammates Shannon Cleary/Madlena Kurasz secured the point with a 6-4 match victory.  There were two victories in the singles, and they came from Mariami Dolashvili (5-7, 6-1, 6-4) and Cleary (3-6, 6-4, 7-5).
  • Stony Brook University opened up the spring season with victories over Connecticut and Army.  The Seawolves took it to the Huskies with a close 4-3 win.  In doubles, the lone Stony Brook winner was the duo of Nadia Smergut and Louise Badoche (6-0).  The singles winners were Adey Osabuohien (7-5. 4-6, 7-6 (3)), Elizabeth Tsvetkov (4-6, 7-5, 6-4), Smergut (6-1, 6-0) and Badoche (6-4, 7-6 (4)).
  • Against Army, Stony Brook controlled the entire match up, winning 6-1.  The doubles point was won via Smergut/Badoche (6-4), and Kristina Tsvetkov/Tsvetkov (6-3).  Seawolves took five of the six single matches: Vozniak (7-5, 6-2), Osabuohien (6-3, 6-2), Tsvetkov (6-2, 6-1), Smergut (4-6, 6-3, 10-9), Badoche (7-5, 6-4).
  • NJIT had three matches over this past week, two of which were in Akron, Ohio, and one in Youngstown.  The Highlanders dropped a 7-0 decision at Akron, with the lone win coming from the doubles pairing of Carolina Zanotta and Nathalie Habegger in a 6-4 fashion.
  • Liberty took the courts against NJIT and came away with a 7-0 win.  The Highlanders did not pick up a win in any match.  The best performances came from Carolina Zanotta who fell 2-6, 3-6, and Brittany Yang, who lost 1-6, 3-6.
  • Youngstown State was able to get the upper hand against NJIT, 5-2.  NJIT did win the doubles point; Zanotta/Habegger took it 6-4, and Valerie Carroll/Sydney Nowak won by default.  The lone singles win came by way of Carroll who won by default.
