CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Last year’s defending men’s and women’s tennis teams are featured in the first slate of the 2013 America East Tennis Players of the Week. Binghamton’s Ismael Dinia went undefeated in singles play, while Stony Brook’s Polina Movchan won in straight sets at the No. 1 spot. Here’s a look at this week’s Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week:

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Ismael Dinia, Jr., Binghamton
Rabat, Morocco/Lycee Descartes

  • Went undefeated in singles as the Bearcats went 3-0 at the Army Shootout over the weekend.
  • Battled for a three-set win (5-7, 6-2, 7-6) at No. 1 singles against St. Bonaventure.
  • Won in straights sets against Drexel (6-4, 6-3) at No. 2 singles and Army (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3 singles.
  • Notched a 3-0 singles record for the week.
  • Posted a 1-1 record at No. 2 doubles with partner Eliott Hureau.
  • Currently owns 54 career wins, including two victories over nationally ranked players in the fall.
  • Is one of 10 returning letterwinners for the six-time defending Bearcats.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

Polina Movchan, Jr., Stony Brook
Kiev, Ukraine/Specialized School #125

  • Collected two wins at No. 1 singles.
  • Won in straight sets against Lehigh (6-3, 6-0) and Temple (6-1, 6-3).
  • Dominated doubles play with an 8-1 victory over Lehigh at the No. 2 spot with teammate Jackie AltanSarnai.

Around the League

  • Stony Brook Men, who are off to a 3-1 start, defeated Lehigh for the Mountain Hawk’s first home loss since 2012.
  • The Seawolves women had a 2-0 week, including victories over Lehigh and Temple.The UMBC men are 4-3 on the season and enter this upcoming weekend with a two-game streak.
  • The UMBC women’s match against Old Domion was postponed.
  • Albany’s women’s squad is off to a 5-3 start, including a 4-2 league victory over Hartford.
