Carter, Lopez Named Tennis Performers of the Week - AmericaEast.com

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A pair of repeat winners has been honored with this week's America East Tennis Player of the Week awards. UMBC's Justin Carter takes home the men's honors while Albany's Rocio Lopez earns the women's award.


Carter (Randallstown, Md.) continued his hot play this spring, improving his record in both No. 1 singles and doubles. The freshman earned his fifth straight singles win in three sets against College of Charleston, taking the first and third sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-3). Carter then helped UMBC earn a point in doubles with a 9-8 victory.


Lopez (Madrid, Spain) was the only Albany player to earn a win against Presbyterian. The junior first lent a hand to an 8-1 victory in No. 1 doubles and followed that up with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10) win at No. 2 singles. Lopez has now earned two America East Player of the Week honors in 2013.


America East Men's Tennis News and Notes

  • Binghamton had two matches this weekend, falling 5-2 to No. 51 Yale and blaking St. Bonaventure 7-0.
  • Boston U. split its two matches last week, downing Merrimack and falling to Fairfield.
  • Hartford continues its spring break trip to Puerto Rico with two matches this week.
  • Stony Brook fell to Army 4-3 in its only match last week.

America East Women's Tennis News and Notes

  • Binghamton will get back on the court tomorrow with a match at Richmond.
  • Boston U. resumes its schedule this Thursday when it hosts Albany.
  • Hartford will play another spring break match on Wednesday against Puerto Rico - Mayaguez.
  • UMBC dropped its most recent match, a 5-2 setback versus James Madison.
  • Stony Brook will continue play tomorrow with a match against ASA College.
