Binghamton Unveils New Facilities
Binghamton formally opened three new facilities (baseball, softball and tennis) in a ceremony on campus Friday. (Binghamton article and links to media coverage) The baseball field will include 464 stadium seats and professional-style sunken dugouts. In addition, the field includes a new natural grass surface with irrigation and drainage and professional-grade infield dirt. The softball facility will have stadium seating for 236 fans, professional-style dugouts as well as a natural grass surface that is fully irrigated, while the new tennis facility will consist of 12 fenced-in and windscreened new courts, six of which are fully cushioned.

Soccer Teams Streaking   
Six America East soccer teams, three men's and three women's, are currently unbeaten streaks of three games or more. Stony Brook and Vermont men lead the way as each are unbeaten in its last five games. The Seawolves, the reigning league champions, are 4-0-1 in that stretch, the Catamounts are 3-0-2. Both teams open up conference play on the road Saturday with SBU visiting Albany and UVM heading to UMBC. The Hartford women, which started league play with a 1-0 win over Binghamton Sunday, is 3-0-1 over its last four games. The UMBC men, Maine women and Stony Brook women have not dropped any of their last three matches. The Retrievers, Black Bears and Seawolves are each 2-0-1 in that stretch.

Roberson Run Set for October 6
The 19th Annual Kevin Roberson 5K Memorial Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, October 6 as part of the University of Vermont Homecoming and Reunion Celebration Weekend. The run is dedicated to the memory of former Catamount Kevin Roberson, the 1992, America East Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Roberson, who tragically was killed by a drunk driver in 1993, is the conference's all-time leader with 409 blocked shots, ranks fourth with 1,054 career rebounds and is one just 42 players to score 1,500 points (1,503). The America East Player of the Year award was re-named in his honor in 1993.

Four Field Hockey Programs Ranked as Maine Re-Enters Poll
Four America East field hockey programs are currently ranked after Maine re-entered the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Poll this week. The conference is just one of four with at least four teams ranked joining the ACC, Big Ten and CAA. The Black Bears (6-4), who have won five in a row, are 23rd. Boston University (6-3) leads the group, ranking 12th. New Hampshire (4-4), winner of three of its last four, is 15th, while Albany (4-5), which has faced five ranked opponents already this season, is 22nd.

Former Maine Hoops Standout Barnies Nets Pro Contract
Troy Barnies, a first-team All-America East performer for Maine's men's basketball team in 2010, has has signed a professional contract to play for Salon Vilpas in Finland's top division. The former Black Bear is coming off a stellar season playing for Istanbulspor in Turkey. He averaged nearly 11 points, six rebounds and a steal per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 73.2 percent from the free throw line in his first professional year. Barnies averaged 14.3 points and 7.7 rebounds en route to earning all-conference honors as a senior.
