In an effort to honor the African-American faculty and staff members from each of the nine schools affiliated with the America East, the conference is putting together a nine-part video series featuring one prominent African-American from each school. These features will highlight the connection each of these individuals have on campus as well as in the surrounding communities.

As a community member and a fan for Retriever sports, Dr. Kimberly Moffitt has been introducing students to how African-Americans are portrayed through various media outlets. Dr. Moffitt enjoys teaching her students about sports and entertainment through historical and social views that will educate the direction media and sports are heading.

As an assistant professor in the department of American Studies, Dr. Kimberly Moffitt has appeared on various local talk shows, edited books, and taught her class through various movies and hit TV shows like HBO’s “The Wire”. She takes what is being taught and implements scenarios throughout life’s experiences for her students to understand the growth of the African-American image in media.

As an individual who has made an impact on her students through her personal research and teachings, Dr. Kimberly Moffitt is an ideal representative from UMBC for Black History Month.
