New for the 2011-2012 seasons, the America East Daily Word, a collaboration between AmericaEast.com and AExtra, will recap the previous day's games and on goings from our nine campuses and provide links to previews, recaps, features and exclusive coverage.
Lacrosse
season is rapidly approaching and we knew it wouldn’t be long before local
media coverage started to break down our teams.
UMBC’s
men’s lacrosse team was the subject of a handful of features today in the
Baltimore Sun taking a look at some of the preseason storylines for the
Retrievers.
One
such storyline is the competition at the goalkeeper position. Adam Cohen, after
starting just twice last year, gets the preseason nod for the Retrievers according
to coach Don Zimmerman. With Cohen getting the nod to start the season, that
leaves UMBC with an experienced goalie ready in the waits. Check out what the
Sun has to say about it.
Zimmerman
also chats a bit about some injuries that have plagued the team here in the
early going of the season but he has taken an “optimistic stance.” With a solid
group of underclassmen getting significantly more time in practice, the
Retrievers, Zimmerman says, will be fine.
And
then there is the all-encompassing season preview breaking down reasons UMBC
has to be optimistic and some key players to look out for. Make sure you keep
an eye out for Nick Doub who could be a huge difference maker this year in
Baltimore.
UMBC
opens its season February 18 at home against Robert Morris.
