In an effort to honor the
African-American faculty and staff members from each of the nine schools
affiliated with the America East, the conference is putting together a
nine-part video series featuring one prominent African-American from each
school. These features will highlight the connection each of these individuals
have on campus as well as in the surrounding communities.
In
a sport where you get a win for pinning your opponent on a mat, which requires a certain level of technical skill, Coach Carl Adams can show you what it
takes to have the winning edge. Having served as coach at Boston University for 31 years, Coach Adams can attest to the meaning of dedication
and perseverance off and on the mat.
Being at
the helm of Boston University’s wrestling program, Coach Adams has guided
the Terriers to 10 conference championships and has helped send 59 wrestlers to
the NCAA tournament. In his tenure at
Boston University, Adams has been inducted into the Glen Brand Wrestling
Hall of Fame of Iowa and his alma mater, Iowa State University's Hall of Fame. Coach Adams knows what it means to be a
national wrestler, but he has also written three books on wrestling techniques and
invented Adam, a wrestling takedown machine used by wrestlers all over the
country.
As
an individual who has made an impact on his team and carries that same leadership
to other student-athletes, Coach Carl Adams is an ideal representative from
Boston University for Black History Month.
