Diamond, Three Other Former America East Stars Wrap Up MLB Seasons
The Major League Baseball season came to an end Wednesday night for players on 22 teams, including four former America East stars:
Scott Diamond (Binghamton) - Ex-Binghamton standout Scott Diamond concluded his stellar season by suffering the defeat in Minnesota's 2-1 loss to the White Sox. But, Diamond, who was not on the Twins' active roster at the start of the season, more than solidified a spot in their rotation next year as the southpaw posted a team-high 12 wins, which tied for 17th in the American League, against nine losses. He registered a 3.54 ERA in 173 innings pitched, which ranked 13th in the league and also walked just 31 hitters and led the league in walks per nine innings (1.6). Career Stats
Carlos Pena (Northeastern) - Pena narrowly missed his sixth straight 20 home run season, finishing with 19 in 160 games for Tampa Bay. Overall, the former All-Star and Gold Glove winner batted .197/.330/.354 with 61 RBIs and 72 runs scored. Career Stats
Tom Koehler (Stony Brook) - Koehler made his first major league start for the Marlins Wednesday, allowing three runs in five innings while fanning three in a loss to the Mets. The former Seawolf struck out nearly a batter an inning (13 hitters in 13 1/3 innings) for Florida this year. He finished 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in his first major league season. Career Stats
Adam Ottavino (Northeastern) - Ottavino appeared in 53 games out of the bullpen for Colorado, going 5-1 while registering a 4.56 ERA. The 2005 America East Pitcher of the Year, struck out 81 hitters in 79 innings. Career Stats

Former America East Standouts Taken in NLL Draft
Over the past several years, many former America East men's lacrosse stars have impacted professional lacrosse. Since 2007, 43 players have been chosen in either the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) or National Lacrosse League (NLL) Drafts. That number increased to 49 on Monday as six former stars went in the 2012 NLL Draft. Reigning America East Player of the Year Joe Resetarits (Albany) went sixth overall to Calgary, followed by Hartford's Michael Cudmore (2nd round, 15th - Edmonton) and Carter Bender (2nd, 18th - Buffalo), Stony Brook's Robbie Campbell (3rd, 26th - Rochester) and Kyle Belton (3rd, 27th - Toronto) and Hartford's Kyle Goodchild (6th, 55th - Edmonton).

Catamount Classic Set for This Weekend
The 2012 Catamount Classic - Lacrosse For A Cure takes place this weekend (Oct. 6 & 7) at Thayer Academy's off-campus turf fields in Braintree, Mass. On Saturday, nine Division I women's programs will partake in the event, including America East programs Boston U. and Vermont. On Sunday, 18 men's teams will play, including Hartford and Vermont, to help fight the battle against cancer and raise awareness for cancer screening and prevention. Over the last four years the event has tripled in size, has donated nearly $130,000 to cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and handed out thousands of cancer screening and prevention information booklets to young adults all over the United States. 

Stony Brook Men's Soccer Streaking
The Seawolves, the reigning America East champions, have picked up right where they left off last season. After finishing last season 7-2-2 in its final 10 games, SBU has opened 2012 with nearly an identical record, starting 7-2-1 and are in the midst of a six game unbeaten streak during which it has going 5-0-1. The Seawolves are ranked eighth in the latest NSCAA Northeast Region poll heading into their game with Boston U. Friday night.

Three Field Hockey Programs Remain Nationally Ranked
Boston University, New Hampshire and Albany remain ranked in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Poll this week. The Terriers (7-4) stayed in the 12th spot, followed by the Wildcats (5-5) in 19th and the Great Danes (5-6) in 22nd.
