New for the 2011-2012 seasons, the America East Daily Word, a collaboration between AmericaEast.com and AExtra, will recap the previous day's games and on goings on our nine campuses and provide links to previews, recaps, features and exclusive coverage.
As
a high school basketball player in the state of Vermont, the goal is to play
your last game of the season at UVM’s Patrick Gym for the Division I state
championship.
Three
members of the Vermont men’s basketball team did that (on more than one occasion)
and now Patrick Gym serves as a more permanent home.
Matt
Glass, Pat Bergmann and Clancy Rugg – a trio of Vermont high school basketball
rivals in the day – suit up and make some big plays for the Catamounts. Enough
so, that the Burlington Free Press featured the native Vermonters in a piece
this weekend.
John
Fantino breaks down the solid impact each has had on a UVM team that has won
six of seven including a big win against Albany last week and a road win at
UMBC this weekend. And perhaps just as important as their on-court presence,
the three Vermonters bring some excitement to the fans who get to see one of
their own on the Green Mountain State’s biggest stage.
“When
one of these guys scores or comes off the floor after having a nice stretch of
minutes, the cheers are definitely a little bit louder,” UVM coach John Becker
said in the article.
