Daily Word: America East Draft Central - AmericaEast.com

New for the 2011-2012 seasons, the America East Daily Word, a collaboration between AmericaEast.com and AExtra, will recap the previous day's games and on goings on our nine campuses and provide links to previews, recaps, features and exclusive coverage.

America East was draft central over the weekend as several student-athletes heard their names called by professional sports franchises.

Boston University women’s soccer standout Jessica Luscinski will be the latest Terrier to put on a professional soccer uniform. The two-time America East Striker of the Year was the 20th overall selection by the Boston Breakers in the Women’s Professional Soccer draft on Friday.

Luscinski wrapped up her stellar career on Commonwealth Avenue ranking second all-time in points and is fourth Terrier to be drafted by a professional franchise. Leading the league in points this year, Lusckinski was also a Third-Team All-American and a First Team Scholar All-American.

The 2012 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft also went down on Friday and four America East players were selected. Stony Brook and Hartford led the way with two selections apiece while Albany had one. The America East has now had 24 draftees in the last six years after having just one in the first five drafts.

Stony Brook seniors Kyle Moeller and Robbie Campbell became the fifth and sixth Seawolves to be drafted by MLL franchises in the last two years when they were picked up by the Long Island Lizards. Moeller (36th overall pick) anchored the Seawolves’ defense picking up 45 ground balls in 2011 while Campbell (60th overall pick) scored 17 goals and dished out 10 assists last year. Both were All-America East selections.

Albany’s Joe Resitarits (39th overall pick, Hamilton Nationals) led the Great Danes in offense last season as a junior with 44 points on 31 goals and 13 assists. Hartford’s Carter Bender (43rd overall pick, Rochester Rattlers) and Martin Bowes (64th overall pick, Boston Cannons) , meanwhile, played keys roles during the Hawks’ run to the NCAA Tournament last year. Bender posted back-to-back hat tricks in the America East tournament and Bowes recorded nine multi-goal games for Hartford.

All of these players will take the field for their respective schools this spring.
