New for the 2011-2012 season, the America East Daily Word, a collaboration between AmericaEast.com and AExtra, will recap the previous day's games and on goings on our nine campuses and provide links to recaps, previews, features and exclusive coverage.
As
non-conference play winds down, successful weekends have been a common theme
for America East squads this fall. The
last three days were no different as teams combined to go six games over the
.500 mark against solid competition.
We'll
start on the field hockey turf where Maine and New Hampshire are emerging as
top dogs in the America East. Maine ran
its win streak to eight games over the weekend with wins over Providence and
Michigan State. The Wildcats, meanwhile,
remain unbeaten at 8-0 after shutting out Holy Cross and Northeastern. Boston U. and Albany aren’t far behind both
earning big wins. The Terriers blew out
Ball State, 8-0, and Albany ran past Davidson, 3-0. Fairfield also picked up a win this weekend.
On
the men’s soccer pitch, the door is wide open as we head into conference
play. The preseason favorite, Boston U.,
snapped a four game losing streak with a comeback win over UMass in Amherst. The win marks #300 for head coach Neil
Roberts, all of which have come at Boston U.
But the Terriers, at 2-4, are still behind five teams for the top
spot. Leading the way is Vermont, which
won two more games this weekend to improve to 5-1. And look out for the Great Danes in Albany
because Trevor Gorman and company have won four in a row and captured first
place honors at this weekend’s Binghamton Tournament.
