From Binghamton University Athletics Press Release
VESTAL,
N.Y. -- Binghamton men's tennis senior Sven Vloedgraven has been selected to
the NCAA Singles Championship and will compete at the event on May 25-30 at
Stanford University's Taube Tennis Center. It will be the second trip to
California in the month of May for Vloedgraven, who will head to UCLA with the
entire BU team for a first-round NCAA team match with the 12th-seeded Bruins on
May 13.
Vloedgraven
earned his second straight individual NCAA bid by being among the top-125 in
the final ITA Rankings. Each conference is afforded one automatic berth for
every player inside the top-125 and Vloedgraven was the lone player from the
America East to qualify. In fact, he is the only player from the Northeast
selected.
Ranked No.
77 in the country, Vloedgraven has won 21 consecutive matches and is 32-7
overall. He is the three-time America East Player of the Year and two-time
reigning ITA Northeast Regional champion.
Last year,
Vloedgraven battled food poisoning on the eve of the NCAA Championship at
Georgia, and succumbed, 6-3, 6-3 to 16th-ranked Tim Puetz of Auburn in the
first round of the single-elimination tournament.
