NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Boston University survived a marathon match against Stony Brook University to advance to the final of the 2011 America East Women's Tennis Championship. The second-seeded Terriers clinched a 4-3 decision with a win by junior Monika Mical in the No. 4 singles match. The Terriers will take on top-seeded Binghamton University after the Bearcats topped No. 4 UMBC, 4-0, in the other women's semifinal.

The men's championship will feature the tournament's top two seeds as No. 1 Binghamton topped No. 4 Stony Brook, 4-0, and No. 2 UMBC grabbed a 4-0 victory over No. 3 Boston U.  Both the men's and women's finals matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The Boston U. women pulled out the 4-3 win over No. 3 Stony Brook with Mical's 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-4 victory at the four spot. The Terriers had to make a comeback in the singles matches after Stony Brook took the doubles point. Stony Brook's No. 2 doubles team of juniors Katherine Hanson and Salome Mkervalidze grabbed an 8-7 victory while the duo of  sophomore Nini Lagvilava and Gayatri Krishnan earned an 8-5 victory in the No. 3 slot. Boston U. struck back in the singles, getting victories from No. 1 junior Stefanie Nunic and No. 2 sophomore Vivien Laszloffy. Nunic won 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, while Laszloffy earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Boston U. also won at No. 4 with Mical and No. 5 with freshman Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis, 6-2, 6-2. Stony Brook took singles victories at the Nos. 3 and 6 slots.  Junior Prerana Appineni won, 6-4, 6-2, from the third position while Mkervalidze won, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, from the sixth position.

In the other women's semifinal matchup, Binghamton took care of business against No. 4 UMBC, 4-0. The doubles teams of junior Jillian Santos and senior Yulia Smirnova and juniors Marina Bykovskaya and Emma Leibowicz earned the Bearcats the doubles point. Santos and Smirnova scored an 8-5 victory at No. 2 while Bykovskaya and Leibowicz won at No. 3 soubles, 8-4. The Bearcats went on to picked up the three necessary singles points as senior Anna Edelman defeated UMBC freshman Kim Berghaus in the top spot, 7-6 (3), 6-0, Santos took the No. 3 match, 6-3, 6-0, and Smirnova grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4. UMBC freshman Josefin Stange-Jonsonn was leading her No. 6 singles match, , when the match was decided.

The men opened the action on the tournament's second day as top-seeded Binghamton dispatched No. 4 Stony Brook, 5-0. The Bearcats took the doubles point with a win in the top slot from senior Sven Vloedgraven and junior Gilbert Wong, 8-1, as well as in the No. 2 slot from junior Alexandre Haggai and senior Arnav Jain, 8-1. The Bearcats continued their strong play in the singles, grabbing wins in the first four positions. Vloedgraven led the way with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stony Brook freshman No. 1 Nikita Fomin. Jain posted a win at the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-4, while Wong took the No. 3 slot, 6-0, 6-3, and Haggai earned a victory at No. 4, 6-1, 6-4.

In the other men's semifinal, UMBC grabbed a 4-0 win over No. 3 Boston U.  The Retrievers took the doubles point thanks to an 8-4 win at second doubles by junior Rasid Winklaar and senior Mwali Phiri and an 8-1 at third doubles by sophomores Adam Duprat and Gaulthier Berret. Winklaar, Duprat and Berret finished the Retriever victory with singles victories. Winklaar took the win at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.  Duprat took the No. 4 victory, 6-1, 6-1. Berret won his match at No. 5, 6-3, 6-3. The Terriers did not go out without a fight. Boston U. held leads in both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions when the match was decided. Sophomore Josh Friedman led at the top spot, 7-5, 0-2, while junior Michael Kopelman was up a set in his No. 3 match, 6-4, 0-4.

In the women's consolation match, #5 University at Albany swept #6 University of Hartford, 7-0. Junior Aubrey Brooks and sophomore Sarah Iannone led the way for the Great Danes. Brooks dropped just one game in her No. 3 slot match, winning 6-0, 6-1. Iannone won by a similar score in the No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-0.
