Episode 15 Profiles NOF Campus Community Service Challenge - AmericaEast.com

In this edition of "America East Online", the show profiles the latest stories and achievements of the America East Conference. America East Online is a 20-minute web-only show which features all nine of the conference's campuses and highlights athletics, academics and leadership.

The episode begins with a feature on the early season success of the Albany men's and women's lacrosse programs. Women's lacrosse head coach John Battaglino and men's lacrosse head coach Scott Marr each discuss the significance of seeing their teams in the national rankings, as well as how the competition level in America East has developed in recent years.

The next segment profiles the recently completed 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which featured seven America East athletes in competition. Of that group, Binghamton senior Erik van Ingen, Stony Brook junior Lucy Van Dalen and Boston University junior Katie Matthews earned First-Team All-America distinction. The three runners discuss what it was like competing at the national meet and what it meant to achieve this great accomplishment.

Following that is an interview with Connecticut women's basketball head coach Geno Auriemma. While the Huskies were able to knock off Hartford in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the matchup was something special for both coaches, as Hartford head coach Jennifer Rizzotti played a key role in leading Connecticut to its first National Championship in 1995. In this interview, Auriemma talks about the impact Rizzotti had on the Connecticut program as a player, as well as why she has been so successful in developing the Hartford program into an annual contender.

The episode concludes with the Best of U. series. This Best of U. focuses on the Newman's Own Foundation Campus Community Service Challenge, which recognized the community service work done by all nine America East universities. The segment features an interview with Mark Bertrand of The Giving Circle, which in partnership with University at Albany's Third World Impact, received the top grant of $25,000.

The show, hosted by Max Mandel, will be available every other Wednesday throughout the rest of the academic year. Fans can watch the web show at the America East Zone on AmericaEast.com, as well as on the league's social media web sites such as YouTube and Facebook.
