New for the 2011-2012 seasons, the America East Daily Word, a collaboration between AmericaEast.com and AExtra, will recap the previous day's games and on goings on our nine campuses and provide links to previews, recaps, features and exclusive coverage.
It
is the season to be thankful. Our fall sports season just wrapped up and we
have plenty to be thankful here at the conference office.
We
released our top 10 plays of the fall yesterday and it’s time to take a closer
look at why we are thankful for those plays.
We
are thankful for awesome goal celebrations. Whether it’s jumping in the air, a
collection of somersaults, back flips or just straight tackling the player who
scored (thank you Hartford), our goal celebrations this fall were top of the
line.
We
are thankful for consistency. Maine’s Riley Masters won his second consecutive
cross country championship back in October. He did it in a course record time,
no less. Meanwhile, the Boston U. women’s soccer team won its fifth straight
conference title. The Terriers did it with discipline and with a little nifty
footwork.
We
are thankful for clutch performances. UMBC’s Dan Louisignau came up huge with a
penalty kick save in overtime against No. 1 Maryland back in September. Shayla
Bergeron scored the game-winning goal for Albany in double overtime of the
women’s soccer quarterfinal s against Vermont. If you recall, that game was
played in a blizzard!
And
we are thankful for all the athletes who do tremendous things on the fields and
courts so we can put together all these top moments and relive the excitement.
