New for the 2011-2012 seasons, the America East Daily Word, a collaboration between AmericaEast.com and AExtra, will recap the previous day's games and on goings on our nine campuses and provide links to recaps, previews, features and exclusive coverage.
What
a day in the America East Conference! Media Day at the Connecticut State
Capitol is in the books so let’s take a look at yesterday’s events…
Preseason
polls leaked throughout the morning before their official unveiling later in
the afternoon. Boston University, under the new direction of Joe Jones, grabbed
the first spot in the men’s poll while UMBC earned the preseason favorite
status for the women. Retrievers head coach Phil Stern addressed the room...
“UMBC
will not be joining the ACC or Big East,” Stern joked.
Speaking
of conference realignment, Mark McGuire at the Albany Times Union wrote a
column yesterday about the changing landscape of college athletics. He spoke at length about Albany and the
America East.
The
preseason all-conference teams were also released. All five all-conference
selections from last year make up this year’s women’s squad. The men’s team -
very guard heavy - features the league’s active scoring leader and last season’s
rookie of the year.
New
America East commissioner Amy Huchthausen addressed those in attendance, as
well, saying she is excited and thankful to be the conference’s next
commissioner.
