CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- For the third year in a row, Binghamton University is listed
as the No. 1 value for out-of-state students among public colleges according to
Kiplinger Magazine. In total, the
publication ranked six America East schools in its annual list of the top 100
"values" among public colleges.
Binghamton, a State University of New York, led the pack of
America East representatives, appearing as the best value for out-of-state
students and the No. 6 value for in-state students.
University at Albany, UMBC, University of New Hampshire,
Stony Brook University and University of Vermont also graced the top 100.
Boston University appeared among the top 100 private university
values, checking in at No. 49.
In ranking the schools, Kiplinger
looked at a variety of factors, both "academic quality" and "costs," to assess
"value." Academics hold more weight in the poll, counting for roughly two
thirds of a schools value. Academically, the report evaluated such factors as
SAT/ACT scores, admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios and
graduation rates. Financially, the report looked at total expenses for in-state
and out-of-state students, financial aid and average student debt after
graduation.
