Student-athletes and administrators from across the America East descended on Hartford, Conn., over the weekend for a workshop with College For Every Student (CFES). According to its website, CFES is “a nonprofit organization committed to raising the academic aspirations and performance of underserved youth so that they can prepare for, gain access to, and succeed in college.” During a
break at the workshop, CFES Program Director Angel Acosta spoke about his experience
with CFES, and the impact that the partnership with the America East can
have on the organization.
While CFES has previously worked with some of the member institutions of the America East, this year represents a full partnership between the conference and the organization. According to America East commissioner Patrick Nero, this partnership exemplifies the goals and mission of the conference.
“The primary mission of all nine America East Conference schools is to provide educational opportunities. With this in mind, there is no better partner for us than College For Every Student. CFES has helped more than 100,000 young people pursue college educations over the past 25 years. We are proud that they are our partner and applaud all of the members of the America East community who have assisted in this effort.”
The workshop brought together student-athletes and representatives from America East institutions, faculty and staff from schools involved in the CFES program and members of the CFES staff. The weekend event allowed for an exchanging of ideas for how to better mentor and be involved with underserved youth. Be sure to visit the CFES website for more information on the organization and its goals.
