CAMBRIDGE,
Mass. - After helping the No. 47 Binghamton University men's
tennis team earn its third consecutive NCAA tournament berth, junior Sven
Vloedgraven garnered his own bid into the NCAA Division I Men's Singles Tennis
Championship held May 26-31 in Athens, Georgia.
Vloedgraven is the first player in America East history
to earn a berth into the NCAA singles tournament. He claimed one of 16
automatic bids into the 64-man draw after capturing a national ranking of 123rd
and a Northeast regional ranking of first. Vloedgraven has been ranked atop the
Northeast regional rankings all season and was nationally ranked 117th
earlier this season.
He is 38-8 overall in singles this season and 23-3 in
dual matches. In the fall, Vloedgraven won the ITA Northeast Regional and
advanced to the ITA National Indoor Championship, which included the top-32
players in the country.
The men's singles draw has yet to be released. All matches
will be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point
tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
