In the fourth episode of "America East Online", the show
returns to the America East office for a look at the latest news and stories
from around the conference. America East Online is a 20-minute web-only show
which features all nine of the conference's campuses and highlights athletics,
academics and leadership.
The show kicks off with a look back at the successful fall
sports season. The UMBC men's soccer team which won the America East crown in
penalty kicks, defeated Princeton in the first round of the NCAA tourney before
tying William & Mary in the second round. The Stony Brook women's cross
country team also finished a successful fall season with a seventh-place finish
at NCAAs and Holly and Lucy Van Dalen each earned All-America status. In the
episode, interviews with UMBC head soccer coach Pete Caringi and Boston
University women's soccer head coach Nancy Feldman help profile the great
success that both programs had on the soccer field this season. The
achievements in cross-country, field hockey and volleyball are also profiled.
With four new head coaches working the sidelines this season
in men's and women's basketball, the show begins the first of a four-part
series of profiling the first-year coaches. This week, America East Online
learns more about New Hampshire women's basketball coach Maureen Magarity,
including a look at her background growing up in a coaching family.
In the student-athlete profile this week, America East
Online host Max Mandel sits down with UMBC point guard Chris De La Rosa. In
this segment, De La Rosa discusses how he ended up at UMBC after starting his
career at Siena, and also what it took for him to be an America East
All-Academic Team selection.
The episode wraps up with the Best of U. series. This Best
of U. takes a look at the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team and their work with
Mustache Madness. Stony Brook lacrosse player Kevin Crowley discusses how the
team became involved in Mustache Madness, as well as the great response from
the Stony Brook community.
The show, hosted by America East's Max Mandel, will be
available on Wednesdays at least every other week throughout the academic year,
including weekly during the basketball season. Fans can watch the web show at
the America East Zone on AmericaEast.com, as well as on the league's social
media web sites such as YouTube and Facebook
