CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Boston University senior Lauren Stong (Miami, Fla./Palmetto Senior) is the recipient of this week's America East Golf Performer of the Week based on her play at the Brown Invitational last weekend.
Stong, who placed 12th at the 2008 America East Championship, finished the 36-hole competition at Thorney Lea Golf Course in Brockton, Mass. last weekend with a 167. She carded 86 the first day and improved to 81 the following day. Stong played the last eight holes of the event one over par on the par 72 course. Her score was good enough to place 19th individually among a strong field, including defending Ivy League champion, Harvard.

The
Great Danes did not see action last week and are resting up for their next competition, the Hartford Invitational on April 20-21 at the Rockledge Golf Course in West Hartford. Last month, Albany opened up the 2009 spring season at the Fairfield
Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C... Junior Amanda McPhee finished
fourth individually to lead
the team to a second-place finish among five teams... The Great Danes,
which
had all five of their golfers improve their scores in the final round,
posted a
two-day team score of 679 over the par-72, 4,473-yard course... McPhee
shot
team-low scores on each day of the tournament to pace the Great Danes.
She shot
an 83 on the first day, and carded an 80 during the tournament’s final
round to
finish with a two-day score of 163... UAlbany’s Annemarie Kissane and
Corrin
Conroy placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the field of 19
golfers...
Kissane shot an 89 on the first day and an 81 over the final 18 holes
for a
two-day total of 170, while Conroy carded a 90 in the first round and
an 81 in
the second to finish with a 171... Stephanie Klein recorded a two-day
total of
175 which was good for 11th overall, while Jessica Signorelli rounded
out the
UAlbany golfers with a final mark of 181 to place 14th.
The Boston University golf team opened its spring
campaign with a fifth-place finish at the Brown Invitational, as the squad
carded a 692 in the two-day invite at Thorny Lea Golf Course in Brockton,
Mass. Senior Lauren Stong (Miami, Fla./Palmetto Senior) sat atop of the
Terriers’ leaderboard with a 19th-place finish. She paced the Terriers' efforts
carding an 86 on Saturday and improved to an 81 on Sunday for a two-day total
of 167. Stong played the last eight holes of the event one over par. Sophomore
Ana Johnson, playing in the one position for BU, was the second Terrier to
finish the tourney with a 173 (86-87) to finish in 26th. Freshman Courtney
Dampolo finished two slots behind Johnson with a 175 (88-87). Sophomore Dana
DeStefano and junior Kaitlyn Mardeusz tied for 28th with two-day totals of 177.
Rounding out the field for the Terriers was freshman Caroline Burkhard, who was
playing in her first collegiate event, and she placed 32nd (96-102?198). BU
will return to the links on Saturday (April 11) for the Central Connecticut
Invitational in Wethersfield, Conn.
Hartford tied for 13th out of 15
teams at the Hoya Invitational last week in Beallsville, Md. The Hawks moved up
two spots in the final round, posting their best 18-hole total of the
tournament at 335. Freshman Emily Linn (Englewood,
N.J./Dwight Englewood)
led the squad for the week and tied for 46th overall with a 54-hole
total of 253. Her final round of 79 was the best round by a Hartford golfer for the tournament... The Hawks
will be back in action on Saturday, April 11 in a tri-meet against Central Connecticut
State University
and Boston University. The match will be played at
Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, Conn. Hartford will then host its
own tournament on April 20-21 at Rockledge Golf Course in West Hartford, Conn.
