America East In The Polls: April 1, 2009 - AmericaEast.com

Spring sports are in full force, despite what the weather in the Northeast may dictate, and America East teams are having successful 2009 campaigns according to the national polls.

The UMBC men's lacrosse team (7-2 overall record, 1-0 America East record) is ranked sixth in both the USILA and Nike/Inside Lacrosse polls, tying the program's highest-ever ranking. Albany (5-2, 1-0), who faced the Retrievers in last year's America East Championship title game, is ranked 18th, also in both national polls. The Great Danes play Hartford tonight in the conference's lone contest today.

On the women's lacrosse side, Boston University (6-3, 2-0) and New Hampshire (7-3, 1-1) have been ranked for the entire season. The Terriers are ranked 12th by Inside Lacrosse this week, while the Wildcats are ranked 19th, up from No. 20 a week ago. The two conference heavyweights meet this afternoon at 3 p.m. in Durham, N.H.

Two America East tennis teams moved into the ITA rankings this week after impressive team performances. The Boston University women's team entered the poll at the No. 73 slot after upending No. 52 Virginia Commonwealth University and then just slipping, 3-4, to No. 55 Old Dominion. The Stony Brook men dropped a match to St. John's, but are still only two wins away from matching their total victories from a year ago. The Seawolves are now tied at No. 75 in the men's ITA poll.

Another Stony Brook team, the softball squad (19-3, 3-0), is on a roll with 15 straight wins and is now receiving a vote in the Ultimate College Softball Division I Poll as voted on by college coaches. The Seawolves are in Piscataway for a doubleheader with Rutgers this afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.
